Iryna Zhuk: Belarus once again proves it can host top level competitions

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) – Belarusians have proved once again they are capable of hosting competitions of any level and The Match Europe v USA testifies to the fact, many-time Belarus' champion in pole vault, participant of the 2016 Olympics Iryna Zhuk told BelTA.

The Belarusian placed 5th (4.60m) as part of Team Europe.

“I am impressed with the atmosphere of the match and inspired by what is going on here. Fans are incredible. I did not expect such strong support. Performing in Minsk is a great responsibility for me. We are watched not only by our loved ones and friends. The whole Belarus is rooting for us,” Iryna Zhuk said.

The competitions include hammer throw, javelin throw, discus throw, 100 meters, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 200 meters, 400 meters, 400m hurdles, 800 meters, 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters, 3,000 meters steeplechase, 4x100 meters relay, mixed relay (200-200-400-800 meters), shot put, triple jump, high jump, long jump, pole vault.

Each discipline features eight athletes (four from Europe and four from the United States). The winner of the competition in each discipline will get €7,000, the silver medalist - €5,000, the bronze medalist - €4,000. Competing in the match are about 350 athletes. Fourteen Belarusians make part of Team Europe.

The competitions are taking place on 9-10 September.
