Finland to host 2022 IIHF World Championship

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – Finland will host the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in 2022. The decision was adopted unanimously during the IIHF Congress in Cologne on 19 May 2017, BelTA has learned.

Initially, Finland bid for hosting the worlds in 2021, but the choice was made in favor of the joint bid of Belarus and Latvia. After that, the IIHF Congress decided that Tampere and Helsinki would play host to the championship in 2022.

The 81st edition of the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship will wrap up in Cologne this weekend with semifinals on 20 May (Russia vs Canada, Sweden vs Finland) and the bronze-medal and gold-medal games on 21 May.

Denmark will host the worlds in 2018, followed by Slovakia in 2019, and Switzerland in 2020.
