Belarus lose to Latvia in OT at IIHF U20 Ice Hockey World Championship

MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) - Belarus lost to Latvia 2-3 in overtime on the second day of the 2020 IIHF U20 Ice Hockey World Championship Division I in Minsk on 10 December, BelTA has learned.

Aleksei Kotelovsky scored on a power play to put Belarus on the scoreboard in the opening period.

Following a goalless second stanza, Latvians produced an answer to level off the game. A little later the Latvian team took the lead before Aleksei Kotelovsky scored his second of the night to force extra time. Janis Svanenbergs scored a game-winner for Latvia 13 seconds into the overtime.

Belarus will face Norway on 12 December, Slovenia on 13 December and Denmark on 15 December.

The team which places first is promoted to the top division. All matches of the 2020 IIHF U20 Ice Hockey World Championship Division I in Minsk are broadcast by the Belarus 5 TV channel.
