Azarenka, Govortsova into second round in Acapulco

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – Belarusian tennis players got off to a good start at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco, BelTA informs.

Belarus' number one Victoria Azarenka, ranked 14th in the world, needed two hours to see off Slovenia's Polona Hercog (World No.82) in the opener 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. The Belarusian will next play World No.66 Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia who secured a double bagel against Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain (105) 6-0, 6-0 in the first round. Victoria Azarenka is 7-3 lifetime against the Spanish player.

Olga Govortsova (89) cruised to the second round after beating World No.76 Lara Arruabarrena of Spain 6-1, 6-2 in 60 minutes. Olga Govortsova will next face either World 24 Sloane Stephens of the United States or U.S. Louisa Chirico (123).

In the men's doubles Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Treat Huey of the Philippines battled through the Australian duet of Chris Guccione and Bernard Tomic 4-6, 6-3, 14-12. In the quarterfinal the Belarusian-Filipino duo, seeded fourth, will take on either the American pair of Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey or the Polish-Mexican duet of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Santiago Gonzalez.

The tournament in Acapulco will complete on 27 February.
