UNGA to publish Belarus-sponsored declaration on family protection

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – The declaration on family protection that was presented by Belarus Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Valentin Rybakov in the UN will soon be published as an official document of the UN General Assembly, Spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Mironchik told media, BelTA has learned.

“It is for the first time that such a document was put forward to support the family. In the near future the declaration will be published as an official document of the UN General Assembly,” Dmitry Mironchik said. The declaration was approved by member nations of the Group of Friends of the Family. The document was presented at a special high-level event at the UN headquarters on 16 May, Dmitry Mironchik informed.

“In cooperation with the Group of Friends of the Family and several U.S. non-government organizations Belarus initiated a series of events entitled Uniting Nations for a Family Friendly World to mark the International Day of Families celebrated on 15 May,” Dmitry Mironchik said.

The Group of Friends of the Family was set up following the initiative of Belarus, Egypt and Qatar. Today the group unites 25 countries. It is an informal voluntary association of like-minded countries that promote the interests of the traditional family as a natural and basic social unit.
