Typhoon Megi wreaks havoc in Zhejiang

HANGZHOU, 29 September(BelTA - Xinhua) - Typhoon Megi has wreaked havoc in east China's Zhejiang Province, causing huge economic losses.

Megi, the 17th typhoon this year, forced the evacuation of 236,000 people in the province and destroyed 333 houses, leading to a direct economic loss of 2.68 billion yuan (402 million U.S. dollars), according to the provincial department of civil affairs.

On Wednesday, a landslide hit Sucun Village, Suichang County and left one dead and 26 missing, according to a Thursday statement by Suichang county government. Rescue work is under way.

A total of 35 rescue teams have been working in severely hit areas, including Pingyang and Wencheng counties.

Typhoon Megi killed four people and injured 268 others in Taiwan as it traveled across the island Tuesday.
