Students from 15 countries gather in Belarus for law summer camp

MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – The International Law and Arbitration Association is hosting its traditional Summer International Law Camp on the Berezina River, BelTA learned from the camp's organizers.

The camp has brought together university students from 15 countries (USA, Canada, India, Pakistan, Georgia, Brazil, Ukraine, Russia, and other CIS countries) who will enhance their knowledge, exchange experience, and discuss the legal aspects of rapidly developing information technologies.

The organizers selected 30 participants from over 600 applicants. They are winners and participants of different international contests, students of Harvard and Yale universities, the Geneva Academy, and other world-famous universities.

Summer camp 2017 is themed around the legal aspects of cybertechnologies from hybrid wars to blockchain. This topic has been in the focus of experts for several years. Legal regulation does not keep up with the pace of technological development. Cyber espionage, cyber crimes, and technological inferiority are the price paid by those countries that fail to develop their legal institutions. Today's students are tomorrow's young and ambitious professionals. They have to be ready to counter new threats and strive for the supremacy of law over politics.

The camp's students will learn from world-class professors about the details of law regulation in modern technologies (and its absence in many cases), the law applicable to armed conflicts, the law observed during peacetime, including the establishment of digital economy. Teaching the students will be Andrei Kozik (the co-author of the famous Tallinn Manual on the International Law Applicable to Cyber Warfare), PACE Special Rapporteur on Hybrid Wars Boris Tsilevich, Director of International Humanitarian Law at the American Red Cross Christie Edwards, and others.

The International Law and Arbitration Association is a charitable organization helping carry out legal research, provide humanitarian education, support gifted young people, and exchange international experience.
