Science libraries of Belarus, Russia's Smolensk Oblast sign cooperation agreement

MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) – Belarus' National Library for Science and Technology and the Tvardovsky Smolensk Oblast Universal Science Library (Russia) have signed an agreement on cooperation in information support for the innovative development of border areas, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Science and Technology Committee.

The document is meant to advance and expand the use of the information capacities of both libraries in a single science and technology space to develop science, technology, and education.

Belarus' National Library for Science and Technology is the largest information center for science, engineering, and technology in the country. This is the country's only big library that has its own regional network: it operates branches - science and technology libraries - in every oblast center. The library's collection comprises a total of almost 55 million documents and grows by over 750,000 items every year. The library is a state-run depository of science-related literature. It boasts the only complete patent collection which is big enough in chronological terms and compliant with all the requirements imposed on patent research. Over 180,000 readers and more than 2,000 companies and organizations use the library's collection every year.
