VITEBSK, 13 May (BelTA) – Russia's Bryansk Oblast seeks to strengthen cooperation with Belarusian regions, Director of the Economic Development Department of Bryansk Oblast Sergei Lysenko told reporters in Vitebsk, BelTA has learned.
Sergei Lysenko is taking part in the 5th International Economic Forum Innovation. Investments. Prospects hosted by Vitebsk and Orsha on 12 and 13 May.
He noted that Bryansk Oblast has been closely cooperating with Belarus for several decades. “We have strong ties with Mogilev Oblast and Gomel Oblast. Our enterprise Bryanskselmash produces Belarusian-Russian machinery under the trademark Polesye. There is also a joint venture making construction equipment. We are discussing ways to bolster the ties between Bryanskselmash and the elevator manufacturer Mogilevliftmash. Besides, we have plans to establish cooperation with Vitebsk Oblast. This is why we have come to take part in the forum,” Sergei Lysenko said and added that this is the first visit of an official Bryansk Oblast delegation to Belarus' Vitebsk Oblast.
The official pointed out that the Bryansk Oblast governor plans to visit Belarus in August. “Our governor has plans to visit Vitebsk Oblast and meet with its authorities. We have similar interests, first of all in agriculture. Bryansk Oblast is renowned for its agriculture. Unlike other Russian regions, we show a growth in agricultural production. For instance, in 2015 it increased by some 20%. We are interested in implementing joint industrial projects,” Sergei Lysenko noted.
The 5th International Economic Forum Innovation. Investments. Prospects is running in Vitebsk and Orsha on 12-13 May. It includes an extensive business program, a business matchmaking event, an international conference, a seminar and exhibition events. The forum has been organized by the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee and Vitebsk City Hall, Vitebsk oblast administration for supervision of rational use of fuel and energy resources, Vitebsk Regional Marketing Center, the regional association of employers, the administration of the free economic zone Vitebsk.
