Russian TsKBM tests pumps for Belarusian nuclear power plant

MINSK, 31 August (BelTA) – The Russian engineering company TsKBM (part of Atomenergomash, which is the mechanical engineering division of the Russian state corporation Rosatom) has finished testing three main circulation pumps intended for the Belarusian nuclear power plant, BelTA learned from the Atomenergomash website.

In line with the contract TsKBM will make a total of five main circulation pumps for the second power-generating unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.

TsKBM specializes in designing, manufacturing, and aftersales service of pumps for nuclear energy industry. The company is Russia's only developer and manufacturer of main circulation pumps for all types of Russian VVER reactors.

Main circulation pumps are an integral part of nuclear power plant reactor units. The pumps keep the heat transfer agent flowing and operate under high pressures and with temperatures in excess of 300C.

TsKBM operates Russia's only facility for full-scale testing of pump equipment in conditions imitating all the parameters of a live nuclear reactor (pressure, temperature, type of the heat transfer agent). All the TsKBM products for nuclear power plants are tested in various modes in order to promptly detect possible deviations and fix malfunctions. The company also supplies spare parts and provides the necessary support to its clients by offering aftersales service of pump equipment at nuclear power plants in Russia and abroad.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
