Russian military, Belarusian diplomats deliver humanitarian aid to Syrian Aleppo

MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – Russian military and Belarusian diplomats have delivered a batch of humanitarian aid to the Syrian city of Aleppo, BelTA learned from the Russian center for reconciling warring sides in Syria.

According to the source, two humanitarian actions were carried out in Aleppo in association with the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus. Medications were delivered to the university hospital, the Al Razi hospital, and the cardiovascular surgery hospital. Goods for children were delivered to children's home No. 1 in the Dzira area.

As much as 23 tonnes of humanitarian cargoes were delivered, including 12.5 tonnes of food, 4.3 tonnes of various articles, and 6.2 tonnes of medical equipment and medications.

BelTA has been told that hot meals and basic essentials are still available at seven checkpoints for civilians, who are leaving Aleppo's areas, which are controlled by illegal military groups.

Vitaly Novitsky, Press Secretary of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry, told BelTA that the humanitarian aid delivered to Aleppo residents is only part of the cargo that Belarus sent to Syria on 18 September. The cargo weighs a total of 45 tonnes. Upon requests of the Syrian side it includes basic essentials for local residents, primarily children. In particular, Belarus sent children's clothes and footwear, baby food as well as tinned food and medications for Syrian clinics. In Belarus the cargo was split into several parts for the sake of delivering it promptly after arrival to Latakia, Damascus, and Aleppo.
