Russian experts hail Belarus' achievements in anesthesiology

BREST, 25 May (BelTA) – Anesthesiology is of a very high level in Belarus, President of the Obstetric Anesthetists' Association, Professor Efim Shifman said on 25 May, BelTA has learned.

Efim Shifman is attending the national conference, Anesthetic Assistance in Obstetrics and Gynecology, in Brest. The event gathered more than 200 highly-qualified specialists from Belarus and Russia. “Today's meeting is an exchange of opinions between partners. The level of anesthesiology in Belarus, if we compare it with Russia and Western Europe, is very high. Your country uses pharmaceutical drugs that we are just getting ready to introduce. The reason behind this rapid development, apart from enthusiasm of specialists, is in good organization,” said the president of the Obstetric Anesthetists' Association.

Medics of the two countries are expected to discuss many issues during the two-day conference in Brest. The major of them are the ways to prevent complications in childbirth and Caesarean operation, reduce maternal and infant mortality. “In order to reduce maternal and infant mortality, women need to prepare for pregnancy and labor, make regular health checks. The percentage of complications will be lower then,” Efim Shifman said.

He also talked about in vitro fertilization and noted that he knows about Belarus' plans to do it using budget resources. “I am happy to hear that this can become a part of the state program in Belarus,” he said. It is a very progressive step for increasing the birth rate and reducing the number of complications.

Efim Shifman stressed that Belarusian and Russian medics are in a constant contact with each other. Representatives of the two countries agreed to hold the next meeting in Moscow on 28-30 October.
