ROME, 6 February (BelTA) – Belarus will be an excellent host of the 2nd European Games, Belarus Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Organizing Committee of the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019 Sergei Rumas said as he met with President of the European Olympic Committees Janez Kocijancic in Rome on 6 February, BelTA has learned.
“The organizing committee meets on a regular basis to prepare properly for the European Games and organize them at a high level,” Sergei Rumas said.
According to the premier, 135 days are left until the start of the games. All necessary organizing events are under his permanent control. “I am glad to hear that you are happy with the way Belarus is gearing up for the 2nd European Games. Let us discuss the issues you have outlined,” Sergei Rumas said.
Minsk will host the 2nd European Games on 21-30 June 2019. Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will compete in 199 medal events in 15 sports. Competitions in eight sports will serve as qualifiers for the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo. Competitions in badminton, boxing and judo will be counted as the official European championships.
