Plans for Belarusian-Russian drone lab unveiled

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – There are plans to set up a Belarusian-Russian center for manufacturing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in Belarus, BelTA learned from Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) Vladimir Gusakov before the joint session of the presidiums of the Belarusian and Russian academies of sciences on 26 May.

Vladimir Gusakov said: “We've discussed with Russian colleagues the possibility of setting up an R&D center or a joint venture to make unmanned aerial vehicles. A group of Russian scientists visited the enterprise R&D Center for Multifunctional Unmanned Complexes of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus yesterday. They were very interested in our products. They remarked that the products are effective, competitive, and live up to international requirements. I think we are going to discuss the proposal of the Russian side regarding the creation of a joint center or possibly a lab in Belarus.”

The NASB head noted that the Belarusian and Russian academies of sciences have already established a number of joint labs and R&D centers. “We have joint projects in various fields, including pharmaceutical products, new materials, and nano industry. We pool our efforts to explore outer space. We work together in the area of agriculture and agricultural machines, too,” he added.

A joint session of the presidiums of the Belarusian and Russian academies of sciences is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 26 May. A large delegation from the Russian Academy of Sciences arrived in Minsk to participate in the session. Participants of the session are expected to discuss cooperation between the Belarusian and Russian academies of sciences and the participation of institutes of the two academies in programs of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.
