Over 2,500 military engaged in logistics exercise in Belarus prior to Zapad 2017

MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Over 2,500 military personnel and about 500 special vehicles and automobiles are involved in a logistics command exercise in anticipation of the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Defense Ministry website.

The Belarusian-Russian exercise for logistics units is scheduled for 21-25 August. The exercise is taking place in the Borisovsky exercise area, several locations in Minsk Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast, and Mogilev Oblast as well as permanent stations of the logistics army units.

The logistics exercise is supposed to prepare the logistics army units for the Belarusian-Russian strategic army exercise Zapad 2017. The logistics exercise will also improve field skills and cohesion during joint operations.

It is the first exercise of the kind. The exercise is supposed to test the accomplishment of all kinds of logistics support missions.

As part of the exercise army units will practice the technical protection of military roads. They will practice evacuating and repairing broken vehicles and weaponry in addition to deploying a trunk pipeline and vehicle refueling stations in the field.

Taking part in the exercise are logistics command and control bodies. Several units from the Belarusian-Russian regional army group have been employed as mock-strength military units.
