Opinion: Journalists need to be marketing experts

MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – Today journalists need to be marketing experts in some way, Director General of Govorit Moskva Radio Station Vladimir Mamontov told BelTA.

“Today I have looked through some news on Belarus and saw that the choice of the media outlet or writer depends on the new conditions. People read those who provide information first. We, with our “old-fashioned journalistic style”, which means verifying information, learning another opinion, are runners-up today. Journalists need to act faster, be more open, keep in touch with readers,” he said.

Vladimir Mamontov does not deny that the media should provide analytics. It, however, needs to change. Journalists need to learn to analyze fast, sharply and wittily in order to capture readers' attention.

He also emphasized the relevance of the agenda of the Belarusian media forum. “Digital technologies are a good thing, but one needs to understand how to use them in order to preserve the common cultural space,” he said.
