Opinion: Delivering true information at heart of news reporting

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – The main task of news agencies is to provide true information, First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Viktor Guminsky said at a meeting of the CIS Mass Media Heads Council (the CIS Information Council) in Minsk on 19 April, BelTA has learned.

First of all, the news agencies should be trustworthy. They should provide fast coverage of news as public mood depends, in many things, on the information given by journalists, Viktor Guminsky said. “We see that the world is rapidly changing and we all are in the midst of events. Yesterday's news is already old news. People's thoughts, their mood and position depend very much on journalists,” he said.

An event is processed before it gets covered by the media. Not everything that happens gets into the spotlight, Viktor Guminsky said. “Today the way the information is presented is a matter of peace,” he pointed out.
