Karczewski: Belarus, Poland can increase quotas for exchange of students

MINSK, 6 December (BelTA) – Quotas for the exchange of students between Belarus and Poland can be increased, Marshal of the Senate of Poland Stanislaw Karczewski said when answering questions from students of the philology department of Belarusian State University on the agreement on cooperation in education between the two countries, BelTA has learned.

Stanislaw Karczewski said that cooperation in this field begins with small steps. It is possible that the quotas will be increased, he added.

BelTA reported earlier that the senators ratified the Belarusian-Polish agreement on cooperation in education on 5 December. The document will contribute to the development of direct contacts between educational institutions, exchange of undergraduate and graduate students and professors. The agreement provides for the organization of advanced training and retraining of teachers in Belarusian and Polish philology, participation in joint educational activities.

The countries agreed to host ten students, graduate students and doctoral students for five months every academic year. Annually, Belarus and Poland can host up to 20 students from the national minorities on a parity basis. As for the teaching staff, the parties are ready to organize one-month internships for 12 people during a year.
