Joint board of Belarusian, Russian academies of sciences to sit in Minsk on 26 May

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – A joint session of the presidiums of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Russian Academy of Sciences will take place in Minsk on 26 May, the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus told BelTA.

A large delegation of the Russian Academy of Sciences will arrive in Minsk for the event. The delegation will be led by Acting President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Valery Kozlov. The delegation will also include prominent Russian scientists such as Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergei Aldoshin; Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Aseyev; Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, President of the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valery Charushin; Deputy Director of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Engineering Yevgeny Lupyan.

Participants of the session will discuss a number of important matters, including the operation of the Belarusian and Russian academies of sciences, participation of Belarusian and Russian research institutes in programs of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, and cooperation between the two academies of sciences. Close attention will be paid to Russian-Belarusian cooperation in researching Earth from outer space for accomplishing fundamental and applied goals. Participants of the session will also discuss the operation of the interacademy council on problems of development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Ways to update the joint plan of action of the Russian and Belarusian academies of sciences for 2017-2020 will be discussed.

Zhores Alferov, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a member of the lower chamber of the Russian parliament, a Nobel Prize laureate, a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, is expected to address participants of the session with a video welcome. A diploma will be awarded to Vladimir Labunov, a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Engineering.
