Japanese classic movies on big screen in Minsk 3-8 April

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) – Classic works of Japanese cinema will be screened in Minsk from 3 to 8 April, BelTA learned from the film distribution company Kinovideoprokat of the Minsk City Hall.

The screenings will take place in the Pioner cinema house to feature six films by the leading Japanese directors, winners of the three high-profile festivals – those in Berlin, Venice, and Cannes. These are auteur films which combine unique style and traditions with popular genres: Naomi Kawase's drama Radiance, Koji Fukada's family thriller Harmonium, Hirokazu Koreeda's legal thriller The Third Murder and drama Umimachi Diary, Kuyoshi Kurosawa's horror Creepy and science fiction film Before We Vanish.

The program “Twilight and Beauty: New Japanese Cinema Classics” was launched by the visual and performing arts center ART Corporation in cooperation with the Japanese Embassy and JTI Company. All the movies will be screened in Japanese will Russian subtitles.

In the previous years, the viewers watched films by big-name Japanese directors Shohei Imamura and Keisuke Kinoshita, movies produced by Shochiku Company, and the mysterious Kaidan ghost stories. Program director of the Listapad Film Festival, member of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI), film expert Igor Sukmanov is scheduled to give a lecture headlined “Japanese Cinema. The Empire of Feelings” in OK16 art space on 22 March.
