MINSK, 25 April (BelTA) – Japan hopes for continued cooperation with Belarus taking into account the experience of alleviating consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, BelTA learned from Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Miki Yamada on 25 April.
Miki Yamada said: “We hope for further cooperation with Belarus in this area considering the Belarusian experience of overcoming consequences of the nuclear power plant accident.”
She also reminded that in 2012 Belarus and Japan signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in this area. Implementing this document, the sides have already held three sessions of the joint commission, during which specialists shared their experience and knowledge of overcoming consequences of disasters at nuclear power plants.
Japan's representative also noted it was a great honor for her to partake in the international conference on overcoming consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster in Minsk on 25 April. Miki Yamada pointed out that the forum was taking place 30 years after the Chernobyl disaster and five years after the events at the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
