ICRC views observation of Zapad 2017 as milestone in cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) views its participation in the observation of the Belarus-Russia joint army exercise Zapad 2017 as an important milestone in the cooperation with Belarus, Head of the Department for Cooperation with the Armed Forces and Security Forces of the ICRC Regional Delegation to Russia, Belarus and Moldova Oleg Bondarenko told the media on 20 September, BelTA has learned.

According to him, the ICRC has been long cooperating with the Armed Forces of Belarus in the field of the dissemination of knowledge about international humanitarian law, the relevant training of personnel. “We appreciate this work and consider the participation in the observation of the army exercise Zapad 2017 as an important milestone in the development of mutual relations,” he noted.

The ICRC representative emphasized full transparency in cooperation between the International Committee of the Red Cross and all the countries, including Belarus and Russia. For the International Committee of the Red Cross the participation in the observation of the Zapad 2017 exercise is a sign of openness to dialogue, Oleg Bondarenko said.
