GOMEL, 17 October (BelTA) – The Days of German Films will be held in Gomel on 23-25 October in cooperation with the German embassy, BelTA learned from Gomelkinovideoprokat Company.
The film screenings will take place in Mir Cinema House. Cinema goers will see three feature films in German with Russian subtitles.
The Days will kick off with the political detective The Lives of Others on 23 October. It is a 2006 German drama film about the monitoring of East Berlin residents by agents of the Stasi, the GDR's secret police. The Lives of Others was named the Best Foreign Language Film at the 79th Academy Awards. The film had earlier won seven Deutscher Filmpreis awards. It was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 64th Golden Globe Awards. The Lives of Others cost $2 million and grossed more than $77 million worldwide as of November 2007. The comedy Fack ju Gohte will continue the program on 24 October. The Days will wrap up with the family drama Windstorm on 25 October.
The festival will mark 25 years after the resumption of diplomatic relations between Belarus and Germany.
