MINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – Francysk Skaryna's Bible, which was printed in Prague in 1517, was delivered to the National History Museum of Belarus on 4 September, BelTA has learned.
The book has been kept in the State History Museum in Moscow from the mid-19th century. It was delivered to Minsk specifically for the exhibition Belarus: Revival of Spirituality.
Deputy Director for Science of the National History Museum of Belarus Nina Kolymago underlined: “Delivering the first printed Bible by Francysk Skaryna to the museum was task number one for us when we started working on the exhibition. We wanted to demonstrate the establishment of spirituality of the Belarusian nation starting with the pre-Christian period. Certainly, we could not but showcase Francysk Skaryna's work.”
All the necessary conditions for storing the unique artifact of book printing have been created. Air temperature under the protective cover will be kept at 15-17C, with humidity set at 50-60%.
The book will be on public display till December. Visitors will also be able to use an operational printing press to make copies of gravures of the Belarusian printing pioneer.
