EU Delegation to Belarus proposes extension of MOST project

MINSK, 20 October (BelTA) – The Delegation of the European Union to Belarus invites Brussels to extend the time frame of the MOST project designed to enhance people-to-people-contacts between Belarus and the EU, Andrea Wiktorin, Head of the European Union Delegation to Belarus, told a press conference on 20 October, BelTA has learned.

“Our delegation has already suggested this idea to Brussels that is currently considering it,” Andrea Wiktorin said.

The diplomat noted that it is too early to talk about any definitive timeline. As of today, the project is designed to run through 2017, so there is time to make a decision.

MOST is an EU funded project to enhance people-to-people-contacts between Belarus and the EU for promoting mutual understanding and exchange of best practice. Andrea Wiktorin explained that the project enables Belarusian specialists from different fields to gain acclaim in Europe and brings Belarus and the European Union closer together.

The project has been running for a year now. Over 600 Belarusians have already participated in events and projects in 24 countries of the European Union.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Peter Dettmar pointed out that the project is one of a kind as it allows Belarusians to make their own choice of the events they wish to attend with the support of the European Union. He emphasized that such a project should be extended for many years.

“If the Delegation of the European Union needs any support from the embassies with conveying the idea to Brussels, we are ready to provide any assistance,” Peter Dettmar added.
