CSTO lauds Belarus' achievements in dealing with forced migration

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) – A delegation of government officials from the countries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) praised Belarus' achievements in dealing with forced migration, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Interior Ministry.

“The delegation which is in Belarus on a visit lauded Belarus' achievements in addressing the issues of forced migration. They praised the level of cooperation between the government bodies, international and non-government organizations. The visit has been organized in line with the 2016 work plan of the permanent working group for asylum seekers under the Coordination Council of the Heads of CSTO Competent Authorities on Counteracting Irregular Migration,” the Belarusian Interior Ministry noted.

The study visit to Belarus was organized due to UNHCR's and CSTO's positive assessment of the national legislation in the field of forced migration and its practical application.

The delegation comprises Tajikistan Deputy Interior Minister Iskandar Salekhzoda, Head of the Department for Asylum at the State Migration Service of Kyrgyzstan Chingiz Sarybaev, Chief Specialist at the State Migration Service Sargis Avdalyan and Deputy Head of the Department for Countering Illegal Migration Artur Mkhitaryan (Armenia), Head of the CSTO Department for Countering Challenges and Threats Pyotr Koronevsky and Adviser to the CSTO Secretariat Leonid Tantsorov (Russia), Head of the Department for Migrant Movement, Adaptation and Integration at the Federal Migration Service of Russia Alexander Levin, staff member of the UNHCR Office in Russia Madina Chedzhemova, and others.
