CIS project to celebrate WW2 victory in 2018-2020

MINSK, 19 April (BelTA) – An interstate project named “The Great Victory earned by unity” will be set in motion in the CIS in 2018-2020, Executive Director of the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund Anatoly Iksanov told a press conference in Moscow on 19 April, BelTA has learned.

The project will be launched in Bryansk on 25 April at an international forum dedicated to the Great Victory. The project will feature priority events in the CIS to preserve the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War and counter the attempts to rewrite history.

“Unfortunately, some have been claiming that a new world war is possible or inevitable. They have forgotten about the lessons that must be drawn from the past. If the Earth were to observe a moment of silence for every victim of the Second World War, the world would keep silence for a hundred years,” Anatoly Iksanov said.

In his words, the project is meant to remember all those who gave their lives for the possibility of peaceful life. All the humanitarian events to be held in the CIS in 2018-2020 will touch upon the topic of the Great Patriotic War, one way or another. The project will wrap up in the spring 2020 with celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.
