CIS counterterrorism exercise at power plant in Belarus in late May

MINSK, 24 May (BelTA) – Top officers of the counterterrorism units of the security agencies and special services of the CIS member states will convene in Minsk on 31 May – 2 June, the press service of the CIS Executive Committee told BelTA.

During the meeting results of the first stage of the CIS counterterrorism exercise Cyber Antiterror 2016 will be summed up and the final phase of the exercise will take place. In this final phase a counterterrorism operation will be staged to free hostages and neutralize terrorists at a strategically important installation (the Lukoml state district power plant in this case). Apart from that, a session of the scientific advisory board under the CIS Antiterrorism Center will be held. Representatives of the scientific community of the CIS member states will take part in the session.

Delegations of competent agencies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, the CIS Executive Committee, the Secretariat of the Defense Ministers Council, the coordinating service of the border guard commanders council, the council of chiefs of financial intelligence units, the bureau in charge of coordinating the fight against organized crime, the Interstate Aviation Committee, regional and international organizations will come to Minsk for the convention.

The CIS Executive Committee told BelTA that such events are held in line with the program on cooperation in fighting terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism. Such events represent an important component of the counterterrorism cooperation system of the CIS member states. During such conventions the best practices in fighting terrorism and extremism are shared, topical matters of interstate cooperation are discussed and new ways of interaction between competent agencies are practiced during joint counterterrorism exercises.

The event will be organized by the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center with assistance of the State Security Committee of Belarus.
