Chinese private investments in Grodno Oblast logistics, tourism

OSHMYANY, 21 June (BelTA) – Chinese companies are expected to invest in logistics and tourism in Grodno Oblast, BelTA learned from Grodno Oblast Governor Vladimir Kravtsov during the press conference held for national and regional mass media on 21 June.

Grodno Oblast's relations with regions of China are on the rise. A number of projects are being implemented. In particular, some $600,000 has been invested in the establishment of a traditional Chinese medicine center in Grodno. Chinese capital is also used to reconstruct the Grodno Hotel.

The governor noted: “The Chinese private sector is interested in Grodno Oblast as a transit region. In particular, there are plans to raise investments to build a transport and logistics complex near the Belarusian-Polish border checkpoint Bruzgi. We also see interest in implementing projects in the area of agriculture and woodworking industry.” The largest joint projects include the construction of expo and trade centers for Chinese products in Grodno Oblast and similar centers for Belarusian products in China's Gansu Province. A building located in Gorkogo Street in Grodno has already been allocated for this purpose.

Launched on 20 June, the Year of Tourism between Grodno Oblast and Gansu Province is expected to contribute to stronger relations between the regions, noted Vladimir Kravtsov. He stressed that work on cooperation with other regions of China was also in progress.

Grodno Oblast's merchandise export to China rose in 2017. This market looks promising to food producers. In particular, four dairy companies located in Grodno Oblast have been certified for export to China. Other local companies are working on getting certified, too. The products enjoying strong demand in China also include flax products, optics, and woodworking products.
