Center for Chinese Studies to open at Brest State University

BREST, 22 August (BelTA) – The Center for Chinese Studies is to be established at Brest State University, BelTA learned from Deputy Rector for Science of the university Alexander Budko.

In September 2017 Brest State University signed a cooperation agreement with one of China's leading educational institutions - Anhui University. A verbal arrangement was reached to set up the Center for Belarusian Studies in the city of Hefei with assistance of the Brest-based university. Several parcels with materials were sent to the Chinese partners. In turn, the representatives of China suggested opening the Center for Chinese Studies in Brest.

Preliminary arrangements were formalized during the visit of the Anhui University delegation to Belarus on 19-21 August. The delegation handed over literature about China to their Belarusian partners. “The opening of such centers will facilitate understanding of cultural traditions of the two countries and promote stronger ties between our states in the humanitarian field. This will provide new opportunities for student exchange and joint research projects of university staff,” Alexander Budko said.

Brest State University Rector Anna Sender received an invitation to take part in the 90th anniversary celebrations of Anhui University in September. The program of the celebrations includes a Forum of Rectors and opening of the Center for Belarusian Studies.

Brest State University is also expanding cooperation with Henan University of Technology. A year ago, partners signed a memorandum of intent. “The Chinese side suggested signing a full-fledged cooperation agreement. We are gearing up for the forthcoming visit of the delegation from Henan University of Technology in September. The agreement will open up new opportunities to promote cooperation,” the Brest State University deputy rector is convinced.
