Belavia passenger traffic up 30% in early 2017

MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) – Belavia's passenger traffic has increased by almost 30% since the start of the year, Igor Cherginets, Belavia's Deputy Director General for Marketing and Foreign Economic Affairs, told the media on 27 April, BelTA has learned.

“In January-April 2017 Belavia registered a 30% growth in its passenger traffic, as compared to the same period last year. It is a considerable increase,” said Igor Cherginets.

In his words, Belavia's transit passengers accounted for nearly 50% of the total number of passengers who used the company's services last year. “The company prioritizes this segment. We have been working hard to attract more transit passengers, for example, to Europe. We have already started transporting people from Ukraine to the EU. Today's flight to Brussels had transit passengers from Ukraine. Next flights will be used by people from Kharkov, Odessa, Kiev, and Lvov,” the deputy director general said.

Igor Cherginets noted that the increased number of transit passengers will provide the air company with an opportunity to expand its network, offer new routes and reduce the cost of tickets.

On 27 April Belavia launched a new regular flight Minsk-Brussels (Charleroi)-Minsk. Flights will be operated three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The Monday flight will depart from Minsk at 13.00 and arrive in Charleroi at 14.45 (local time), with departure from Charleroi at 15.20 and return to Minsk at 19.00. The Thursday and Saturday flights will leave Minsk at 9.40 and land at Brussels South Charleroi Airport at 11.25 (local time), with departure from Brussels at 12.00 and return to Minsk at 15.40.

Belavia is Belarus' largest air carrier performing regular flights to 50 airports in 28 European and Asian countries.
