Belarusian television to switch to HD by November

MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) – All the Belarusian television companies will switch to broadcasting a high-definition signal by November 2018, BelTA learned from Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Sergei Popkov during the opening ceremony of the 2nd Belarusian ICT Summit on 16 May.

“We fully switched to digital television in summer 2015. We will complete switching all the television companies and communication operators to delivering HD quality content by November 2018,” said Sergei Popkov.

In his words, the digital transformation of the economy and the social life is impossible without the advancement of information and communication technologies. “4G protocol is actively developing. The introduction of the 5G standard may follow soon to bring about digital industrialization and the Internet of Things,” said the minister.

Sergei Popkov wished fruitful work to participants of the 2nd Belarusian ICT Summit. The event includes a plenary session and panel sessions dedicated to various technological trends. The number includes broadband access technologies, Internet of Things, cloud computing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and virtual reality, blockchain technology, 3D modelling and visualization technologies, information security. Heads of leading ICT companies and heads of representative offices of the world brands from Belarus, Russia, China, and other countries are taking part in the summit. Participants of the event have an opportunity to present innovative solutions and cutting-edge technologies in addition to establishing promising and long-term business contacts.

The information and communication technology summit is part of the 25th international forum on information and communication technologies TIBO 2018, which will last through 18 May.
