Belarusian Kolyady celebrated in Paris

MINSK, 22 January (BelTA) – The Embassy of Belarus in France, with the support of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee and the Bereza District Executive Committee, celebrated the ancient Belarusian Kolyady holidays in Paris on 19 January, BelTA learned from the mission.

That was the third time the Belarusian Embassy in France had celebrated this holiday according to the ancient Belarusian traditions.

The event featured the folk song group Zaranak from Bereza specially invited by the embassy. Representatives of Bereza District held a master class on Belarusian crafts. Belarus' Ambassador to France Pavel Latushko emphasized the importance of preserving the national traditions of Belarusians living both at home and abroad, and noted that Kolyady holidays have deep historical roots.

The event was attended by over 50 representatives of the Belarusian diaspora, the French authorities and public. The event included a tasting of Belarusian Christmas dishes.

The Belarusian embassy in France also hosted the Belarusian Kolyady celebrations in Lyon on 20-21 January with the support of the public organization of the Belarusian diaspora in France BelArt.
