Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry expects Internet user identification to discipline society

MINSK, 17 September (BelTA) – Online user identification will discipline the society. Belarusian Internal Affairs Minister Igor Shunevich made the relevant statement on the air of the TV channel Belarus One, BelTA has learned.

Igor Shunevich believes that any societal actions should follow certain rules. Without such rules the society is plunged into anarchy, power vacuum, and the negation of rights, freedoms, and personal identity of citizens.

Igor Shunevich said: “If there are no such rules, we should work them out. It is my opinion. There must be responsibility for committing unlawful actions regardless of where and how such actions are committed. Online user identification will discipline the society. Let's recognize one fact: the Internet right now is a zone of absolutely irresponsible behavior, statements, expressions, and insults. It is a place where libel is spread and concrete criminal actions and administrative offenses are committed. People must be made responsible for every action, particularly if such actions violate someone's rights and interests. With this in mind I believe it is advisable, correct, and timely to identify participants of this process. It will discipline the people, who now recognize no rights, no bounds, no conventions, no morale, and no principles. The total absence of responsibility will have to face a barrier to some extent.”
