MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – The state of affairs with regard to unregistered weapons in Ukraine raises justified concerns. Press Secretary of the State Border Committee of Belarus Alexander Tishchenko made the statement on 17 November as he commented on the statement released by the State Border Service of Ukraine to describe arms trafficking across the Belarusian-Ukrainian border, BelTA has learned.
The spokesman of the Belarusian border service said: “The Belarusian side does not deny the efforts our Ukrainian counterparts put into protecting the common border. Yes, thanks to concerted measures arms trafficking across the border is more effectively suppressed these days. But we cannot state with full assurance that the situation concerning unregistered weapons in Ukraine and illegal trade in weapons has been resolved. Unfortunately, this threat will continue to exist until state control in this sphere is reestablished in Ukraine. Each side understands that quoting figures in this situation is non-essential.”
