Belarus to take part in FITUR 2018 in Madrid

MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – Belarus will showcase its national stand at the international tourism fair FITUR 2018 in Spain for the first time, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry.

FITUR 2018 is one of the biggest tourism fairs, which gathers travel agencies, hotels, transport operators, service companies and other players in the industry. In 2017 taking part in the exhibition were 9,900 exhibitors from 165 countries and regions. The fair was attended by almost 250,000 visitors. The official opening of the Belarusian stand will take place on 17 January.

Belarus' Sports and Tourism Minister Alexander Shamko is currently on a visit to Spain on 16-17 January. The minister has already met with Secretary of State for Tourism Matilde Pastora Asian Gonzalez to present Belarus' tourism potential and the country's main types of tourism.

A memorandum of understanding on cooperation in tourism was signed between the Belarusian Sports and Tourism Ministry and the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda of Spain. The document envisages an exchange of information, measures to advance national tourism products, protect the interests and security of tourists, share statistics and experience in education and personnel training.

Alexander Shamko also met with Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili to discuss cooperation prospects, tourism development in Belarus, preparations for big events. Taking part in the talks was Belarus' Ambassador to France with concurrent accreditation to Spain, Belarus' Permanent Representative to the World Tourism Organization Pavel Latushko.
