Belarus, Slovakia to bolster ties in science, innovations

MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Slovakia plan to bolster ties in science and innovations, BelTA learned from the press service of the State Science and Technology Committee.

Belarus and Slovakia plan to boost cooperation in key avenues of science, technology, and innovations. The countries will cooperate in energy industry, agribusiness, medicine and pharmacology, nano- and biotechnologies, and nuclear power. These and other prospects of Belarus-Slovakia collaboration were on the agenda of the meeting between Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus Alexander Shumilin and State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic Olga Nachtmannova.

The sides also considered setting up a joint commission on science and technology cooperation, the modalities of a tender for joint science and technology projects for 2018-2019, and cooperation under the EU research programs such as the EU Horizon 2020 program. Belarusian scientists and researchers are carrying out six projects with the participation of Slovakian organizations. Four of them make part of the EU Framework Program for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020.

A Belarusian delegation led by Belarus Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov is currently in Slovakia on an official visit. Belarusian and Slovakian prime ministers Andrei Kobyakov and Robert Fico signed an intergovernmental agreement on science and technology cooperation on 27 April. According to the document, the parties plan to boost cooperation in high technology and ICT.
