MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) - A joint HIV/AIDS prevention project of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine is slated for launch on 1 January 2017, Oleg Eremin, the Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Association BelSet AntiAIDS, told a press conference.
“We are developing the project jointly with the international charity fund Public Health Alliance in Ukraine. It is aimed at preventing HIV/AIDS among women and girls and transgender people. Russia has also joined us. We hope that the project will be launched on 1 January next year,” he said.
Irina Statkevich, the chairperson of the Belarusian public association Positive Movement, noted that previously it was mainly national projects. Now there are more international projects covering the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. “For example, the project Harm Reduction Works – Fund It! has brought together six countries: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Lithuania, Tajikistan and Moldova. We also cooperate and exchange experiences with colleagues from Russia,” she added.
For his part, Chairman of the Belarusian Association of UNESCO clubs Dmitry Subtselny spoke about the cooperation in HIV/AIDS prevention with the Moscow UNESCO Institute for Information Technologies in Education. “We work together on several fronts. For example, there are distance education programs for the Belarusian specialists in the field of HIV prevention. This year in Minsk we are implementing the project “Education in reproductive health, sex education, gender culture and HIV prevention for teachers and parents,” he said.
