Belarus-Russia FIFA World Cup visa recognition agreement comes into force

MINSK, 1 June (BelTA) – The Belarus-Russia agreement on mutual visa recognition during the 2018 FIFA World Cup came into force on 1 June, Alexander Matsukov, Counselor at the Consular Legal Department of the Main Consular Office of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told the media on 1 June, BelTA informs.

In line with the agreement, foreign fans will be able to cross the Russia-Belarus joint border using three highway and three railway routes. It is also possible to travel from Belarus to Russia and vice versa by air. The agreement will partially apply to drivers of vehicles transporting fans, Alexander Matsukov said.

In his words, the visa-free entry regime based on the Russian FAN IDs will be only available from 4 June, ten days ahead of the world cup, through 25 July. “Foreign travelers with FAN IDs and valid passports will be able to enter Belarus visa-free till 15 July. 25 July will be the last date possible to leave the country,” said Alexander Matsukov.

On 29 May, Belarus and Russia signed the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on Issues Related to the Entry of Foreign Nationals and Stateless Persons into the Union State to Attend Sporting Events. In line with the document the visa-free entry to Belarus will be valid from 4 June to 25 July. Russia, in turn, will introduce visa-free rules for foreign fans attending the 2nd European Games MINSK 2019.
