Belarus, Poland discuss ways to increase border checkpoint throughput

MINSK, 17 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Poland have discussed ways to increase the throughput capacity of the Belarusian border checkpoint Bruzgi and its Polish counterpart Kuznica Bialostocka, BelTA has learned.

Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Nikolai Svirid met with Governor of Podlaskie Voivodeship of Poland Bohdan Paszkowski. Representatives of the Belarusian and Polish customs and border services took part in the meeting. The sides discussed ways to increase the throughput capacity of the border checkpoints Bruzgi and Kuznica Bialostocka, which are located in one of the sections of the Belarusian-Polish border, which sees a lot of traffic. Increasing the number of traffic lanes from two to four on both sides of the border was mentioned as an option.

The sides underlined the need to coordinate joint actions in the course of the reconstruction.

The Polish side was informed about the amount of repair work done in the border checkpoint Bruzgi and about the planned completion times. In turn, the Belarusian side was told that the reconstruction of the border checkpoint Kuznica Bialostocka will be finished soon. The Polish side also assured that all measures will be taken to keep the throughput capacity unaffected for the duration of the repair work.

The sides also discussed the coordination of actions to ensure safe and comfortable border crossing experience for tourists during the 2nd European Games Minsk 2019.

Over 2,500 cars, 800 trucks, and over 90 buses cross the Belarusian-Polish border via the border checkpoint Bruzgi every day on the average. About 1 million vehicles have crossed the border via the checkpoint so far this year.
