Belarus, Hong Kong agree to waive visas

MINSK, 16 January (BelTA) – Belarus and China's special administrative region of Hong Kong intend to mutually lift visa requirements. The agreement was reached during the meeting of the Belarusian government delegation and Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Liang Zhenying on 16 January, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in China told BelTA.

The agreement will come into force once the intrastate procedures in the Republic of Belarus and the People's Republic of China are over. Specialists believe that the lifting of visa requirements will greatly invigorate business and tourism contacts between the two countries.

The source pointed out that tourism is one of the key components of the visit of the Belarusian government delegation to Hong Kong. The delegation led by First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vasily Matyushevsky is in China's Hong Kong on a visit on 16-18 January. Members of the delegation are expected to meet with representatives of the business and financial circles of Hong Kong. A visit to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the investment forum Belarus Calling Hong Kong will be arranged.
