Belarus considering Motor Sich request on Minsk-Zaporizhia flight

MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – The Aviation Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus is considering a request of the Motor Sich airline to open the Minsk-Zaporizhia flight, Director of the Aviation Department of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus Vladimir Kostin told media on 28 October, BelTA has learned.

“We have received an official request from the Ukrainian aviation authorities to designate the Minsk-Zaporizhia line to the Motor Sich air company. We are currently looking into the documents,” the head of the department said.

Asked on the promising routes with Ukraine, Vladimir Kostin pointed out Kharkov and Lvov. “If Belavia addresses us with such a request, we will consider this option. However, flight connection with the abovementioned cities can be established by Ukrainian airlines. Yet, we have an application only for Zaporizhia,” he noted.

According to the head of the department, an increase in the passenger flow and transit is a favorable time to open new flights. “We are interested in it,” Vladimir Kostin said.

As was informed earlier, Belavia launched a daily Minsk-Odessa flight on 25 October. Igor Cherginets, Deputy Director General for Marketing and Foreign Economic Affairs at OAO Belavia airline, told BelTA: “Later, if necessary, we may expand the geography of our flights from Minsk to other airports of Ukraine, in addition to Kiev and Odessa”.

In late September, Ukraine banned flights by Russian companies to Ukraine, and also banned, partially or completely, transit flights by Russian air carriers across the country. On 25 October Russia closed sky to Ukraine in response to the flight ban.
