Belarus bids to host international space congress in 2018

MINSK, 20 January (BelTA) – Belarus bids to host the international space congress in 2018, Sergei Zolotoi, Director of the R&D enterprise Geoinformation Systems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus said during the press conference at BelTA's press center on 20 January.

“It was an initiative of our cosmonauts to hold the international space congress in Belarus. Our country is ready to provide a platform for this event in 2018,” Sergei Zolotoi said. The letter with a proposal to host the congress has been signed by such famous Belarusian cosmonauts as Vladimir Kovalenok and Oleg Novitsky.

Paris will host such a congress in 2017. “This is where the next host country will be chosen. We are ready to be the hosts and have already received the relevant consent of the head of state. At the moment the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is preparing information for Vladimir Kovalenok's report on the Belarusian achievements in astronautics, which he is going to present in Paris,” Sergei Zolotoi noted.

He reminded that the Belarusian Space Congress is held annually. “It mostly tackles the matters of Earth's remote sensing, while the international congress typically focuses on the matters of human space exploration,” Sergei Zolotoi stressed.
