About 500 children to recuperate at Belarus' Zhemchuzhina center under Union State program

VITEBSK, 20 October (BelTA) – Recuperating in the children's recreation center Zhemchuzhina in Lepel District, Belarus under the Union State program will be 480 children this year, BelTA learned from director of the center Vera Zakrevskaya.

More than 350 children have paid recovery visits to the center this year. The Union State Day program will wrap up the fourth group recovery stay in the center on 20 October. Children from Belarus and Russia have prepared a joint concert. “The recovery stay included a set of tailored recuperation procedures, school studies, excursions, creative and sport events,” said Vera Zakrevskaya.

According to Vera Zakrevskaya, since 2004 Zemchuzhina has been a regular participant of the Union State program on the organization of treatment and recuperation of children from Belarusian and Russian regions hit by the Chernobyl catastrophe. Over the past 12 years some 3,200 children from Bryansk, Kaluga, Tula Oblasts of Russia and Gomel, Mogilev and Brest Oblasts of Belarus took part in the recuperation program. About Br1.4 million from the Union State budget was used on the program.

“The participation in the Union State program is a big stimulus for the Belarusian center to improve their activity in providing preventive, treatment and recuperation assistance to children,” Vera Zakrevskaya said.

Every year the center provides its recuperation services to more than 7,000 children from Belarusian Chernobyl-hit regions. The center also provides various recovery programs to more than 500 children a year.
