About 1,600 Belarusian nuclear power plant personnel to go through training center

OSTROVETS, 12 October (BelTA) – About 1,600 personnel of the Belarusian nuclear power plant will be trained at the training and education center of the company in charge of operating the power plant, BelTA learned from Vladimir Gorin, Deputy Chief Engineer for Personnel Training, Head of the Training and Education Center of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, on 12 October.

According to the source, about 1,000 personnel have been hired and are being trained. The central control room is fully staffed (40 people). They will spend a long time at the training and education center — up to 1,000 hours per person. Some specializations provide for 1-2 months of training.

The center is busy training specialists to oversee the normal operation of the nuclear reactors and to respond to all kinds of off-nominal situations, including events beyond the nuclear power plant's design basis. If the nuclear reactor core gets melted, the core catcher will do its job. The full-scale model of the nuclear power plant's control room is used to allow the personnel to practice responding to such emergencies in real time.

After the nuclear power plant goes online, the training and education center will give career enhancement courses to the nuclear power plant personnel among other things.
