About 100 Belarusian specialists to undergo training at Novovoronezh NPP in Russia in 2017

OSTROVETS, 24 August (BelTA) - About 100 Belarusian specialists will undergo training at Novovoronezh NPP in Russia by the end of 2017, BelNPP Deputy Chief Engineer for Personnel Training, told Belarusian and foreign journalists on 23 August, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian nuclear industry specialists are mainly trained at the BelNPP training center equipped with the full-scale simulator. The center provides full theoretical and practical tuition, emergency response training. Belarusian specialists also undertake internships at other nuclear power plants. Belarusian specialists visit Novovoronezh to exchange the experience. The training at the Novovoronezh nuclear power plant is particularly relevant keeping in mind that the world's first Generation-III+ VVER-1200 reactor (the design used in Ostrovets) was put into operation there in February 2017.

Russian specialists are also involved in the project as instructors at the BelNPP training center.

The nuclear power plant will employ nearly 2,300 specialists, including 1,680 operational staff. Some 70 specialists that have been selected to work at the plant already have the experience of working at nuclear power plants.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is a project to build a new-generation nuclear power plant with two VVER-1200 type reactors (1,200MW each) 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
