HANOI, 16 October (BelTA - Xinhua) - Landslides and floods triggered by downpour last week in Vietnam's northern and central regions have killed 72, left 30 missing and injured 33 others, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said on Monday.
The victims included 23 people in northern Hoa Binh province, 16 in central Thanh Hoa province, 15 in northern Yen Bai province, and nine in central Nghe An province.
The 30 missing are from Hoa Binh, Thanh Hoa, Yen Bai, and northern Son La province.
The landslides and floods destroyed or inundated over 49,600 houses, broke or damaged a total of 46.9 km of dykes in Hanoi capital, Thanh Hoa and four northern provinces of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh and Ninh Binh, and killed or swept away nearly 300,000 cattle and poultry.
On Sunday, Hoa Binh authorities announced the state of emergency about landslides in the province.
In Hoa Binh's Tan Lac district last Thursday, a landslide buried 18 local people from four families, the committee said, noting that by Monday morning, 13 bodies had been found.
