Lukashenko wants well-developed labor remuneration system in banking sector

MINSK, 16 November (BelTA) – It is essential to develop a clear-cut system of labor remuneration for heads of Belarusian banks, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he heard out a report on the operation of credit and financial organizations on 16 November, BelTA has learned.

It was mentioned during the meeting that the salaries of top managers of certain Belarusian banks are exorbitant. Their salaries are several times higher than the salaries of government members, to say nothing of people working in other industries.

Alexander Lukashenko asked the participants of the meeting if a head of a bank in Belarus works more than the chairman of the National Bank or the prime minister. “I do not think that a head of a private or state-owned bank works more or better than the chairman of the National Bank. If it is so, the president should think about it. I do not think that it is so,” the head of state stressed.

At the same time, the president agreed that if a bank fulfills all the criteria it should be reward. He instructed the National Bank to revise the criteria once again and toughen some of them if necessary.

Alexander Lukashenko said that profit is a priority for credit and financial organizations. However, banks working in the country, even foreign ones, earn money at the expense of its citizens by issuing expensive loans.

The head of state instructed the government and, first of all, the National Bank to develop a clear-cut system of labor remuneration for heads of Belarusian banks. It should be fair and balanced. The president reminded about the responsibility for the fulfillment of his instructions.
