Lukashenko to inspect Pripyat bridge renovation progress

ZHITKOVICHI DISTRICT, 27 April (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko is in Zhitkovichi District, Gomel Oblast, on a working trip, BelTA has learned.

The head of state will be informed about how the crossing of the Pripyat River has been organized and how the construction of the new bridge is proceeding.

During the government conference in Minsk the day before the president gave an instruction to complete the construction of the bridge by 7 November. “The work should be completed this year. No postponements for 2019. The bridge should be officially opened by 7 November. All the related works should be completed before the end of the year. Send there as many specialists as you consider necessary,” the head of state said.

The bridge renovation project has been prepared already. There have been ecological and construction tests. The renovation project will cost about Br49 million. OAO Mostostroy which will serve as a contractor has concluded an agreement on the delivery of metal framework with ZAO Voronezhstalmost. The term of delivery is July 2018. The schedule of renovation works has been approved.

In Zhitkovichi District the head of state will also visit Turov Dairy Company. He will be informed about the fulfillment of the instruction to increase the production and processing capacity of the factory, the production of milk with high added value using cutting-edge technologies. The president will be also briefed on the implementation of an investment project to launch the second manufcaturing line, production and technical characteristics, the financial and economic situation at the enterprise and its development prospects. Alexander Lukashenko will see the exposition of products and modern technologies in milk processing.

The Belarusian animal husbandry industry fully satisfies the internal demand of the population for milk and dairy products. The industry can be also described as the corner stone of the country's agricultural export potential. Belarus produces 771kg of milk per capita, which is three times higher than the per capita milk consumption and seven times higher than the world average milk consumption. Belarus is one of top five milk exporters in the world. In 2017, the country exported $4.9 billion worth of agricultural products and foodstuffs to more than 87 countries. Dairy products were exported to 46 countries. They accounted for 43.8% ($2.2 billion) in the total export of farm products and food.

During the working trip to Zhitkovichi District the head of state will be also informed about the social and economic situation in the region, the fulfillment of his instructions regarding the social development of Turov.
