Lukashenko: It is important to remember Great Patriotic War

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – It is important to remember the Great Patriotic War, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said at the press conference for the Russian regional mass media on 17 November, BelTA has learned.

Even Russians can learn from Belarusians to value the memory of the Great Patriotic War, the President said. There are no neglected monuments in Belarus, even in small villages. The head of state cited a monument in Alexandria as an example. It was unveiled in Soviet years upon the initiative of the local collective farm. At present the monument to a woman who lost her children during the war and had to deal with the ordeals of those years is not in its best condition, but the territory around the monument is always clean, Alexander Lukashenko remarked.

“The villagers regularly clean up the territory. Why? Because every school student knows that it is needed to tidy it up twice a year or event thrice a year. These monuments are our memory. We must respect them, and our children and grandchildren will respect them too. It is a must, and the society does not question it. We have never questioned this issue,” the President said.
